An award-winning fish and chip shop owner has returned to Scarborough to open his latest venture.

Matthew Silk, who has run six businesses in the area, has launched Silks Fish and Chips @ The Croft, in Newby, following a £90,000 refurbishment.

In order to make the move, he has sold his business in Bridlington, where he achieved national recognition when it was named fish and chip shop of the year in the industry’s annual awards in 2011.

He said: “I was missing Scarborough. Bridlington’s lovely but there’s no place like home.”

The former fish and chip shop, which opened on Tuesday, has been completely revamped and includes new fryers and an outdoor seating area. Tables have also been installed so customers can dine-in.

He said: “I would like to thank all the guys who worked on the shop and to the local people who will be supporting us.”
