A SCARBOROUGH supermarket is celebrating after bagging a national award.

Proudfoots picked up the accolade for the Best Supermarket Store at the annual Nisa Retail Member and Supplier Awards.

The honour was given for the company’s Newby store, and is given in recognition of companies which have achieved standards of excellence in the independent retail sector during the past year.

Mark Proudfoot, store owner, said he was delighted the companym which also has stores in Eastfield and Seamer, had impressed judges.

He said: “We are extremely proud to win the award as a great amount of effort goes in to maintaining the store’s high standards and welcoming atmosphere.

“We are significantly developing and expanding the store this year to ensure we provide our customers with all the products they require as well as a pleasurable place to complete their weekly shop.”

The award marks another fine chapter for the family-run business’ credentials and comes as it continues to redevelop its flagship Newby store.

Work started on the site in December and bosses are hopeful the alterations will be completed next month.

The surrounding area has been landscaped with hundreds of plants also put in the area.

The work is the fourth extension at the store, which opened in 1965 with 4,000sq metres.
