Traders who were due to exhibit at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show before it was cancelled are to be reimbursed.
In a move expected to cost around £700,000, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society will write to 600 businesses offering reimbursement to coves the cost of their stand.
The final two days of the three day show had to be cancelled after rain resulted in the car parks being unsafe.
The cancellation is expected to cost the Society around £2 million in ticket refunds, extensive remedial work to the car parks, cancelled attractions and displays, and reimbursement of trade stands.
Nigel Pulling, Society chief executive said: “Under our terms and conditions no refund is due, but we recognise the loss of two days’ business will have a severe impact at a time when trading is already challenging. Therefore, we have taken the decision to offer this refund.”
