A new parent and toddler group with a focus on children with additional needs has started at Kingdom Faith Church in St Nicholas Street.
The Busy Little Builders group got under way just after Christmas, following the success of two other groups - Little Builders, which started in November 2012 and won the Netmums Favourite Award, and Tiny Little Builders, for 0-18 month olds, which has been running for a year.
The new group is for youngsters aged from 0 to 4 and is held on Tuesdays from 1pm to 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Admission is £1 per family, regardless of the number of children, which includes a drink and snack.
Cheryle Porter, who runs the group with Nicky Scott, said: “We have lots of activities, play time, jigsaws and learning games, along with story time.
“We’ve had a fantastic reaction so far. People appreciate it and it’s as good for the parents as it is for the children - they can meet each other and have a coffee and a chat.
“It’s a nice, friendly group and people are welcome to come along as we have plenty of space.”
Cheryle said the group came about as she has a son with cerebral palsy and she found that there weren’t many groups around for children with additional needs.
She explained: “I found it was quite hard to mix with a child below school age - there just weren’t that many groups happening.”
Cheryle is now spreading the word about Busy Little Builders by putting up posters about the group at local children’s centres.
