Cannabis 'used as sleep aid'

A woman has been given a conditional discharge by magistrates after police found a small amount of cannabis in her home.

Emma Davis, 27, of Dunn Grove, Eastfield, “occasionally” used the drug as a sleeping aid, her solicitor Franklyn Garvey said.

Scarborough Magistrates’ Court heard police raided Davis’s home on Christmas Eve last year in relation to stolen property, but instead found around 10 worth of cannabis in a bedroom.

Mr Garvey said: “The cannabis was entirely for her own use. She used to be a fairly regular user but now is an occasional user.”

Davis, a single parent, had no other convictions for drugs. She was given a six-month conditional discharge and must pay 43 court costs. Magis-trates also made an order for the forfeiture and destruction of cannabis.
