Although the two cars didn’t make contact with each other, the Astra crashed into the front of the Castle Tavern pub.

The driver of the Astra received medical treatment at the scene, while the pub, which sits on the junction between Castle Road and North Street, was left with cracks at its entrance.

Landlord Jimmy Rice said: “I was just through in the bar and I heard this massive noise, I thought someone had lifted up and dropped the pool table.

“I went through to the pool room and the lads said I think someone’s hit the pub!”
