Chance to go ballistic at the grand ball race

SCORES of people are ready to go ball-istic tomorrow at the annual Filey Lions grand ball race.

The event will see around 2,000 balls released in a splash of bright colour down Cargate Hill from 7.30pm.

The balls are sent from the top of the hill by a JCB and must negotiate a tricky course to reach the bottom.

Prizes will be awarded for the first five balls to cross the finish line.

All other proceeds from the event will go towards local charities.

The event is part of Filey Town Festival, which got underway at the weekend.

Despite less public funding in comparison to last year, festival secretary Bob Rishworth said that the committee had planned an eventful nine days aimed at involving all ages.

Volunteers are being urgently sought to help out during the festival.

Anyone interested in giving their time is asked to contact Catherine Welch on (01723) 516602.
