AN area of land opposite the apartment of Sir Jimmy Savile could be named after him.
Suggestions for a name are being invited by the Scarborough Sir Jimmy Savile Memorial Group, which comprises close friends and other representatives.
The area is diagonally opposite his apartment at Wessex Court on the Esplanade, overlooking South Bay. The area extends from the Esplanade, to the right of the steps that lead to the Spa Bridge.
A spokesman for the memorial committee said: “Sir Jim used that route hundreds of times over the years, and it does not have a name.
“It would be interesting to see what suggestions people can come up with.
“They could be simple or amusing, any wording that links Sir Jim with the area where he lived.”
It is hoped that a national celebrity will be invited to officially unveil a new name-plate for the area.
If you have an idea for what to call the area opposite Sir Jimmy’s apartment, please use the form below and send it to Susan Stephenson, Sir Jimmy memorial ideas, Evening News, Aberdeen Walk, Scarborough YO11 1BB.
