FUNDS that were raised in the soil have been donated to a charity which flies through the air.

A total of £1,182 was raised at a ploughing match in East Ayton and have been given to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA).

The cheque was presented to Jean Dixon by Dave and Denise Ward who organised the Vintage Day and Ploughing Match at their Riverside Farm in Carr Lane.

As well as the competition there were displays of vintage tractors, engines, cars and motorbikes.

Other attractions included a car boot sale, bar, tombola, stalls and refreshments with live music provided by Stan Dixie Five brass band.

A YAA spokeswoman said they relied on the generosity of individuals and organisations to help save lives across Yorkshire.

She added: “To keep both of Yorkshire’s ambulances in the air we need to raise £7200 per day – this is equivalent to £2.65 million per year.”
