CHRISTMAS came early for a local charity which raised hundreds of pounds at its annual festive fair.
Craft stalls, tombola, hand-made gifts and food, plus some help from a thrifty schoolgirl, resulted in total funds of £891 for Basics Plus, which helps adults with learning disabilities by offering work opportunities.
Administrator Paul Barker said: “It went well, we had support from the general public, service users and carers. It was on a par with previous years and we’re grateful of the support.”
The total included a £185.80 cheque donation from pupil Katie Sephton who was challenged with a fundraising exercise.
Mr Barker added: “Every year St Martin’s School challenges Year 6 to raise money for a charity of its choice from a £5 start.
“Katie couldn’t wait for the grant so she borrowed it from her mum and made crafts to sell to friends and family.”
