PLAYERS served up a winner at a table tennis marathon at South Cliff Methodist Church.
The 12-hour event was organised at the church hall to help raise money for Cancer Research UK.
In total 14 players from South Cliff and Westborough faced off against each other in a battle for the ages. The epic session was made even more impressive due to the fact that the combined age of the participants totalled well over 1,000 years, including an 87-year-old woman.
Organisers had hoped that the event would raise over £1,000 for the charity. However, by lunch time they had already smashed the figure, and co-organiser Roy Briggs, who is a member of the South Cliff Methodist Church, was thrilled with how successful the event had been.
He said: “It’s a long day but it’s definitely all worth it in the end. There’s a real buzz about today.
“I just want to thank everybody who has helped us raise the money.”
