A Filey club has closed after 55 years - but members have ensured their history will have a fine ending.
Members of Filey Men’s Club have given a helping hand to a local charity after their group sadly closed.
The club formally ended earlier this month owing to falling membership numbers.
However, the club had £460 in its kitty, which they have now given to St Catherine’s Hospice.
John Fawcett, who was the club’s last president, said members were delighted to have handed over the money to the charity.
He added the men’s club would continue to meet informally once a month for members to enjoy a catch up.
David Marshall, director of funding development for St Catherine’s Hospice, said he was thrilled with the donation, revealing he had met members during a previous visit.
He added: “We are very grateful to Filey Men’s Lunch Club for this generous donation.
“I was impressed when I spoke to them and I am sad to learn it is folding.
“It makes it even more generous of them to think of us as beneficiaries of their closing funds.
“We thank them very much for their efforts.”
