A two-year-old girl is in a critical condition after being hit by a car.
North Yorkshire Police was called at 6.15pm on last night (Thursday) to reports of a collision on Lockton Road in Whitby between a two-year-old girl and a black 4x4 vehicle.
The child was taken by ambulance to James Cook Hospital where she currently remains in a critical condition.
An investigation has been launched and Police are appealing to any witnesses in the area around Lockton Road or Fyling Road, or anyone who may have witnessed the child or a black 4x4 car prior to the incident, to contact them.
The child was wearing pink and purple trousers and a white coat with pink and purple flowers and an insect print.

Specially trained officers are currently providing support to the child’s family and officers from Whitby’s Safer Neighbourhood Team will be conducting patrols in the area, gathering information about the incident and providing reassurance to residents.
