CHILDREN at a Scarborough nursery school dressed up as their favourite animals to raise money for charity.

The youngsters, from Happy Jays in Eastfield, negotiated an obstacle course in their costumes.

They raised sponsorship money from friends and family in preparation for the event, bringing in around £200 in total.

Louise Goodger, manager at the nursery, said: “We do it every year for the Big Toddle, which is organised by Barnardo’s. Each year they pick a theme and this year it was animals.

“The children and their parents put quite a lot of effort in and they really enjoyed it.

“One of the little boys who normally cries when he comes to nursery couldn’t wait to get through the door.

“His mum said she’s going to take him in dressed as a giraffe every day!”

The Big Toddle is Barnardo’s UK’s largest pre-school event. Around half a million children take part every year to help the UK’s most disadvantaged under 5s.
