BROMPTON Church has received 30 embroidered “kneelers” thanks to a clear-out at Wakefield Cathedral.

The church was in need of additional kneelers when parishioner and retired clergyman, the Very Reverend John Allen, heard about renovation work at Wakefield.

As a former provost of the cathedral, he asked if the items could be given to Brompton Church and went over with his wife to collect them.

Dr Mary Jones, the church’s fundraising committee chairman, said: “We’re really pleased to have them. They’re nice, deep kneelers and they haven’t cost us anything.”

She added that the kneelers have originally been made by members of the congregation.

The church has also taken delivery of 50 new hymn books, which were funded with proceeds from the annual calendar competition.

Dr Jones said: “This now means that all the churches in our group will be using the same hymn book.

“It will make things much easier and stop people having to juggle two different books.”
