A FLOWER festival promises to be the highlight of a weekend of special celebrations to mark the 125th anniversary of Scarborough’s South Cliff Methodist Church.
Local residents and visitors are invited to join the ‘party’ at an open weekend on July 2 and 3.
Church doors will be open from 10am to 6pm each day with entertainment and complimentary light refreshments on offer.
Church spokesman Roy Briggs said: “Our church is a well known landmark in Filey Road and we believe many residents who pass by on a daily basis have no real idea of the splendid beauty of the building’s interior, which boasts some wonderful stained glass windows. So we are saying to them: ‘Come along and take a peek behind the scenes as part of Scarborough’s history.’
“We have a church membership of 70-plus and we do feel strongly that the fact that worship continues to thrive at South Cliff after 125 years is an important milestone worth celebrating in a big way.”
