Burniston and Cloughton Bowls Club recently received a much-needed cash boost for its recent ‘Whistle Stop’ event from homebuilder Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire.

The donation was in aid of raising valuable funds for a brand new indoor bowls centre at the popular club.

The homebuilder’s donation was used to provide a £165 prize for the event.

Elaine Bramley, chairwoman of Burniston and Cloughton Bowls Club, said: “Bowls is a real community sport and bad weather can prevent the local villages getting together and socialising.

“Taylor Wimpey has been very kind in donating towards the event and the funds raised will be pivotal in securing the new indoor green.

“Bowls can be enjoyed by people of all ages, so having an indoor facility means that bad weather won’t exclude people from getting involved in this local sport.

“The event was warmly received with a large turn out from locals looking to support the club.

“I would like to thank Taylor Wimpey on behalf of the whole club – we can now look forward to bowling come rain or shine!”

Burniston and Cloughton Bowls Club was founded in 1981 and provides both social and league bowling. The club provides free coaching where required and has an in-house qualified instructor.

Debbie Whittingham, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey said: “Bowls can be enjoyed by all ages and is a great sport to bring the whole community together.

“This is the second time we’ve partnered with the club since the launch of our nearby High Mill development, and it’s great to see them get another step closer to the indoor bowls centre.”

Taylor Wimpey’s High Mill is based off Field Lane, in Scalby. The development currently features a range of three, four and five-bedroom homes.
