Scarborough Swimming Club are set to become an even bigger force on the local scene after taking in members of the former Yorkshire Coast Swimming Club.

The Bridlington-based club, which was only formed last summer, has folded with all the members, aged between nine and 17, going to the indoor pool as Scarborough SC members.

The Yorkshire Coast Swimming Club was started by former Kingfishers Swimming Club coach Juan Carlos Lino, and was based at The Bay, near Filey and Bridlington swimming pool.

The club mainly consisted of former Kingfishers SC swimmers.

Former Yorkshire Coast SC chairman Duncan Wilson said: “We were based at Bridlington’s new pool at the new leisure complex, but our hours were changed to later times which made it very difficult for our young swimmers to get there and back as a lot of them were having to travel south from the Scarborough area.

“Scarborough Swimming Club have made us feel very welcome and things are working out very well for the young swimmers now as they have a lot less travelling to do to get to training”

Scarborough SC head coach Sam Greetham added: “We have been strengthened by the addition of these new swimmers, who we are very happy to have at the club.”
