A GROUP of Scarborough ladies will join a team of over 50 intrepid cyclists as they take part in a challenging three-day charity bike ride.
The fundraiser has been organised by staff at Purple Mountain Bike Centre in Dalby Forest to raise funds for the local Marie Curie nursing service.
The team will begin their route this morning at Grange over Sands in Cumbria and follow an undulating course of off-road routes and technically demanding cycle trails.
Covering approximately 150 miles of beautiful countryside, the riders pass through Southern Lakeland and on to the picturesque Yorkshire Dales and Moors.
They aim to complete their journey on Sunday afternoon in traditional style by dipping their cycle wheels in the sea before enjoying a Gala dinner and entertainment provided by Alastair Griffin, local musician and Fame Academy Finalist, at the Crown Spa Hotel.
Alastair, who is from Whitby, will also be singing a special “Yorkshire version” of his new single Just Drive on the South Bay beach (neat the Beachcomber cafe) when the cyclists arrive at around 4.30pm on Sunday.
Area fundraising Manager for Marie Curie, Cheryl Barrett, said: “Vicky and her superb team of guides and crew at Purple Mountain have put a huge amount of effort into ensuring that all those who take part enjoy the experience of a lifetime.
Cheryl, who is taking part herself, added: “After seeing first hand the comradeship of cyclists in previous years, I felt compelled to join them.”
