THE Other Side Comedy Club is back at the Royal Hotel on Saturday for a laugh-packed evening.
Its ‘big-value stand-up night’ features rising star Carly Smallman from The Rob Brydon Show on BBC1 and cultured Irish comedian Kevin Hayes.
“We’ve a simple but lovely night of stand-up comedy for everyone to enjoy this month,” says resident host Jon Reed. “Last month’s show was a cracker with the wonderful Clever Peter, and this month is about the simple delights of a performer and a microphone”.
Kevin Hayes has one big advantage as a stand-up comedian. He comes from a country blessed with a natural affinity with humour, and where having a craic is part of everyday life.
Hayes has put his natural ability to good use, having performed globally from Melbourne to San Francisco, and from Derry to Dubai, simply telling great jokes.
He has appeared on Live at Jongleurs (ITV), The Comedy Store (Channel 5) and The Stand Up Show (BBC1), and writes a column for the Irish Post, Ireland’s biggest newspaper. The Irish Times called Hayes “a great Irish comic. His dry, smooth wit is wondrous”.
Carly Smallman sings funny songs. She is taking the London circuit by storm with her blend of outrageous impropriety and adorable sincerity.
She was recently hired to warm up the studio audience for The Rob Brydon Show, but Brydon liked her natural banter and improvisation skills so much he put her in the main show alongside James Corden and Mark Ronson.
Last year, her Edinburgh show last year was a sell-out and she was shortlisted for the final of the musical comedy awards.
Supporting Hayes and Smallman are Peter Brush and character act Swinging Jack McManus.
Tickets cost £7 (concessions £5) and are available from the venue, online at www.yorkshirecoastcomedy.co.uk and by ringing 0845 838 1558.
The show is due to start at 8.15pm.
