A NEW community art space is up and running in Scarborough.

The gallery, called “Eatme_space”, is directly opposite Eat Me cafe in Hanover Road.

It has been set up by the owners of Eat Me cafe to give local up-and-coming artists somewhere to showcase their work.

The premises used to be a card shop run by Andrea Willis, who has become the gallery’s first exhibitor.

Andrea is currently showing a selection of line drawings and mixed media work, which has proved popular with visitors.

Cafe co-owner Martyn Hyde said: “We felt that there was a need for an art space like this in Scarborough.

“It’s Scarborough’s first micro gallery – it’s got two exhibiting walls and an area for ceramics.”

The gallery isn’t manned, so if people want to have a look round they just need to call into Eat Me cafe or Andrea Willis Designs to get the key.

Mr Hyde added: “It’s a great thing for the street, which is really up and coming at the moment.”
