Scarborough Council has revealed that it hopes the planning application for the multi-million pound Weaponness Development will finally be submitted next month.

Following on from last week’s Scarborough News Sport exclusive story in which Scarborough Athletic star Jimmy Beadle doubted the project, that includes a new stadium for the Seadogs, would ever come to fruition the authority has moved to dispel those doubts.

There has been little in the way of information forthcoming from the council with regard to the project, with recent decisions over land sales being held behind closed doors with the public and press excluded.

However, speaking after the Jimmy Beadle quotes hit the newsstands Hilary Jones, Scarborough Borough Council’s deputy chief executive said: “The leisure village project continues to move forward positively.

“The disposal strategy for the enabling sites was agreed at Full Council on July 7 and the target date for submitting planning applications for those sites is this September.

“We will be in position to give a more detailed up date in due course.”

Last year the council chose Wrenbridge Land Limited, a specialist in sport and leisure, as the company to deliver the project.
