Scarborough Council has closed a shop in the Market Vaults for selling legal highs.

Green World has been closed by the authority for repeatedly flouting the terms of its licence by selling the controversial substances.

Police found the ‘legal highs’ on sale last week, despite several warnings from the council to stop selling them, and the shop was immediately closed.

The closure follows a campaign by The Scarborough News to rid the town of legal highs, after parents warned of the devastating impact they were having on children.

“This is fantastic news,” said Scarborough MP Robert Goodwill.

“It’s the sort of decisive action that we need from the council and I hope that it sends a clear message out that we need to rid our streets of this filth.”

Store staff have so far been unavailable for comment.
