Scarborough Council has been successful in closing The Breece in West Street for three months following continued anti-social behaviour at the former hotel.
A closure order, applied for by the authority, was granted today (Friday) at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court.
At the previous hearing on Wednesday last week the council stated that there had been 57 recorded incidents of anti-social behaviour between January and the end of August.
“The offences range from low level anti-social behaviour to very serious allegations of a stabbing and rape,” its solicitor told the court,
Police officers submitted reports to the court listing a number of offences carried out by residents of The Breece, including one incident where one person threw a mug out of a window and onto a car.
When the order was first served on Monday last week police officers found drug paraphernalia and homemade weapons in the property.
The site is a House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) and is run by David and Julie Williams of The Breece Ltd.
It will be closed for three months to allow the owners to address the issues raised by the authorities.
