Volunteers at Scalby Library have invited pupils to design a logo for the community group that now runs the facility.

Youngsters from Newby and Scalby Primary School and Lindhead School have entered their designs into a competition, which will see a local artist, Wendy McKechnie, create the winning logo.

This will then be used on signs and letterheads at the library, which was taken over by Scalby and Newby Library Volunteers in January.

Library events organiser Carol Brett said: “We have asked Year 6 pupils to create a picture in any medium of the first thing that springs to mind when you think of a library.”

Volunteers selected 15 from 66 entries, which will be whittled down to a final three by Wendy, who has a studio at Woodend and works mainly with oil paint on canvas.

The winner will be announced at a prizegiving ceremony at the library on July 15 at 6.30pm. All the entries will go on display at the facility.
