FIREFIGHTERS were last night continuing to deal with a major blaze at a Sherburn woodyard.
Around 40 tonnes of uncut timber went up in flames at the property in Brompton Ings Road, with 10 fire crews dealing with the incident.
The cause of the fire is still not known and crews from Sherburn and Snainton were yesterday damping down the area to stop any further risk of it spreading.
Following the initial call around 1pm on Tuesday, crews from Scarborough and Filey were joined by appliances from Sherburn, Snainton, Malton, Pickering, Huntingdon and Kirkbymoorside with a water bowser from Tadcaster, an aerial ladder platform from Scarborough and a Ripon unit also in attendance.
l Fire crews were also called to Prospect Mount Road, in Scarborough, yesterday afternoon after reports of a tree of fire.
One crew was dispatched to deal with the incident, which is believed to have been started deliberately by children using matches.
