A 42-year-old woman has admitted filling up a shopping trolley and leaving a Malton supermarket without paying for the goods worth £199.27.

Nicola Jane Mandle, of Wharton Close in Stamford Bridge, appeared before Scarborough magistrates on Friday.

Katy Varlow, prosecuting, said she entered the Castlegate branch of Morrisons in April. She added that Mandle had no previous convictions and had made a “full and frank admission” to the offence when interviewed later by police officers.

Mandle, who was not represented at the hearing, said: “I didn’t know what I was doing. I’m very sorry. I am very ashamed of myself.”

Jack stephenson, the chairman of the bench, ordered a 12-month conditional discharge.

Mandle was also ordered to pay £45 to cover the court costs.
