POLICE in Scarborough are asking the person who took money left in a cash machine to contact them.

A total of £290 was taken from the ATM outside the Co-op store in Newlands Park Drive just after 9.30am yesterday.

A customer had made the withdrawal from the ATM, but as the transaction took some time to complete they left the machine before the money was delivered. A short time later someone used the ATM and took the money before withdrawing money from their own account.

PC Tracey Brewster, of the Scarborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “It is entirely possible that the person who removed the money has every intention of handing it in to the police but has simply not had a chance to do so. I ask that they contact me at Scarborough Police Station so that I can visit them to collect the money and return it to its rightful owner.

“It will take the bank several days to provide the name of the person who used the machine, at which point I will be visiting their home to recover the money and establish whether or not a crime has been committed.”

If you are the person who took the money from the machine or can help to identify them, contact PC Brewster on 0845 6060 247 quoting reference number 12110098696. Or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
