A violent Scarborough armed robber has escaped from his open prison - and police think he may be heading home.

Police are telling the public not to approach Damien Burns, after the 39-year-old absconded from HMP and YOI Hatfield in Doncaster.
Burns, who was caged in indeterminate for a knifepoint robbery, fled the Category D prison along with 27-year-old Dean Jackson, 27, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne on the evening of Monday 19 May.

And with the pair having no known connections in South Yorkshire, detectives think the duo may be attempting to return back to the areas the originate from - which in Burns’ case is Scarborough.

Burns was jailed in 2007 for the knifepoint robbery and Jackson was on remand awaiting a sentence for a theft related matter.

Police have asked the public to call them on the 101 non-emergency number if either of them are spotted.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 1009 or 1067.
