Badger death trial begins

THE TRIAL of eight people accused of wilfully killing a badger got underway in Scarborough yesterday.

Alan Alexander, 32, William Anderson, 26, James Doyle, 34, Christopher Holmes, 28, Richard Simpson, 37, Paul Tindall, 33, Malcolm Warner, 28, and a teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been charged with the offence.

They are also said to have been digging for badgers, hunting with dogs and interfering with badger setts.

Alexander, Holmes and Simpson are also accused of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

A site visit to Paradise Farm, Howsham, near Malton, was carried out yesterday.
