A vandal wielding a baseball bat smashed up a phone-box in a leafy Scarborough village, it’s been claimed.
The incident, which is alleged to have happened at around 11.40pm on Thursday October 25, occurred in Scalby High Street, and has been described by one eye-witness as “the weirdest thing that I’ve ever seen”.
The witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said that they had been drawn to their window by the sound of a “boy racers’ exhaust.
The male driver of the small, dark vehicle, which was “idling” around, then allegedly strolled across to the phone box, shattering the glass with two blows of the bat.
He then briskly left the scene, before fleeing down Church Hill with his car lights turned off.
The witness added: “Who would drive up to a village with a baseball bat? It’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.”
North Yorkshire Police say they are unable to find a record of the incident.
