A man has been killed in Seamer after being struck by a speeding train this morning.

The man, who was believed to have been in his 60’s, was killed after being hit by the 10am Scarborough to Hull train.

The line was closed for nearly two hours as officers attended the incident, but Network Rail have now re-opened it.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “British Transport Police officers were called to Seamer Junction in Seamer, Scarborough on Monday 20 August following a report of a man being struck by a train.

“British Transport Police and North Yorkshire Police officers attended the incident, which was reported to British Transport Police at 10.22am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Paramedics from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance service also attended but the man, believed to be aged in his 60’s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers will be working to establish the identity of the deceased, and the circumstances surrounding the incident. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
