Chocs away – but who is the sweetie swiper?

SCARBOROUGH police are appealing for the public’s help to trace a thief who stole chocolate from a local confectionery shop.

Officers have released an image of the suspect, who was captured on CCTV allegedly selecting a handful of sweets from a display at Card and Candy Corner in Westborough, on October 26, and leaving the shop without offering payment.

They are appealing to anyone who can help identify the suspect to contact them with information.

He is described as white, with grey receding hair. He was wearing a dark three-quarter length coat, a fawn coloured jumper, dark trousers and black shoes.

PC Kenneth Gunn, of Scarborough police, said: “The CCTV image shows a fairly clear picture of the man we are looking for and I am appealing to anyone who recognises him to get in touch.

“What he took only amounts to a few pounds but theft cannot be tolerated and small businesses can ill-afford to lose any stock in the current financial climate.”

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police, on 0845 6060 247 – select option 2 – and ask for PC Gunn, or Scarborough Police.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting reference number 12110181735.
