POLICE were today still appealing for information on thieves who brought down an 11,000- volt electricity pole in Scarborough in an attempt to steal copper wiring.

The incident happened at 9.23pm on Wednesday night south of the Mere, in Mere Lane, below Oliver’s Mount and near to the railway track.

More than 630 homes lost power and £10,000 worth of damage was caused. It is believed that the thieves used a chainsaw to cut part-way through the pole then tied ropes to it and dragged it over with a vehicle.
