POLICE have charged James Allen with the murders of Whitby woman Julie Davison and pensioner Colin Dunford.
Allen, 36, is also accused of rape, false imprisonment, assault and witness intimidation.
He will appear before Teesside Magistrates’ Court later today.
During a huge police manhunt, which spanned North Yorkshire, Cleveland and West Yorkshire, Allen stayed in the Allerton Croft Hotel, in Scarborough’s West Square, last Wednesday, just hours after Ms Davison’s death.
He was also allegedly spotted in The Lord Rosebery pub, in Westborough, on the same day, and captured on CCTV in shops in the town.
Police scoured the hotel and the town’s railway station on Friday before it was revealed Allen, originally from Blackpool, had fled to Leeds.
He was arrested on Sunday morning in the city after being spotted by an off-duty police officer.
Ms Davison, 50, and Mr Dunford, 81, from Middlesbrough, were found dead at their homes having suffered head injuries.
