WEB USERS are being told to keep alert, after a new email scam was highlighted by Scarborough residents.
An email proclaiming to be from HM Revenue and Customs notifies recipients that they have been awarded a tax rebate for the sum of £209.87.
They are then redirected to another screen to input their bank details to transfer the money over into their account.
However, the money never comes, and victims could find themselves hit hard in the pocket.
The email carries all the hallmarks of an official letter from HM Revenue and Customs, and even has links to their actual website.
If you feel you have fallen victim to the scam, contact trading standards on 0845 4040506.
