A Scarborough family was forced to cancel their holiday after an arsonist torched their car.

A silver Honda Accord was set on fire in Rothbury Street, close to the junction with Gladstone Street, between 8.30pm and 8.40pm on Sunday.

Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses after CCTV footage revealed there were pedestrians and vehicles in the area around the time of the offence.

PC John Fawcett, of Scarborough Police, said: “The victim and their family were due to go on holiday the day after the arson attack and sadly this has had to be cancelled as their car was damaged beyond repair. It’s vital that anyone who can assist our investigation comes forward so we can bring whoever is responsible to justice.”

A 20-year-old Scarborough man was arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.
