Hangover arrests lead to drink-drive warning

DRIVERS in Scarborough have been warned to think before getting behind the wheel after a night on the tiles.

The warning from North Yorkshire Police follows the disclosure of figures via the Freedom of Information act, which shows that 109 drivers were arrested between 5am and noon in 2011.

In total, 918 drivers were arrested in North Yorkshire last year for drink driving.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “If you intend driving the morning after a night out, the message is simple, remember that alcohol can remain in your system for up to 24 hours and it will impair your ability to drive safely.

“The figures clearly demonstrate the determination of officers to enforce the law and bring anyone who recklessly flouts it to justice.”
