A SCARBOROUGH man has appeared in court charged with possessing and distributing an indecent image of a child.
Michael Atherton, 40, of Ingle Close, also faces a charge of engaging in a sexual activity in the presence of a child under 13.
All three charges relate to incidents said to have taken place earlier this month at an address in Scarborough.
Atherton is accussed of having in his possession an indecent photograph of a child and distributing that same picture.
On the same day he is said to have engaged in a sexual activity, for the purpose of sexual gratification, in the presence of a child, knowing that the child was aware he was engaging in that activity.
Following his arrest Atherton appeared before Scarborough Magistrates Court in custody for a preliminary hearing during which the charges were put to him.
Yet to enter pleas in relation to the charges, Atherton spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.
He was represented in court by Nick Tubbs.
Magistrates directed that Atherton’s trial must take place Crown Court.
The bench adourned the case until July 27, when Atherton will appear back in court for committal proceedings to the Crown Court.
Atherton was remanded in custody.
