A FILEY man was locked up for the first time this week after he failed to pay his court fines.
Scarborough Magistrates’ Court heard that Christopher Terzza, 18, failed to make regular payments on the £220 he owed.
He had been told to pay £300 in December, after he was convicted of driving offences.
Although Terzza had made one lump sum payment of £80, the court heard that no other payments had been made, despite making several court appearances since then.
Caroline Wyatt, mitigating, said her client had not made payments because he had been unwell, meaning he had not been paid. She added: “He has never been in custody and he is frightened of that.”
Terzza was sent to a young offenders’ institution for eight days.
