A 20-YEAR-OLD Scarborough man has been fined for possession of cannabis and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.
Adam Shaun Young, of Hertford Close, Eastfield, admitted the charges during a hearing at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court.
Kathryn Reeve, told the court that the defendant had been arrested following an incident on July 22.
He is described as being in a “heavily drunken state” in Westwood car park.
Miss Reeve said Young was drinking from an open container and when police asked him to hand it over, he said “I’m 20 and I can drink where I want”.
She continued: “He became more agitated and aggressive. It was explained to him that he could be arrested and he swore at officers.”
When searched the defendant was found to be carrying four small bags of cannabis worth around £30 in total.
Robert Vining, mitigating, said that Young had drunk 10 bottles of lager and admits he was the worse for wear.
He said: “You can imagine that in drink his language was colourful and he admits he was abusive.”
Mr Vining added that his client was upset that police reports suggested he uses three to four bags of cannabis a day, as he only uses the drug occasionally.
Young was fined £75 for being drunk and disorderly and £75 for possession of cannabis.
He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Magistrates also made a forfeiture and destruction order for the cannabis.
