Man, 37, in court charged with burglary spree

A MAN appeared in court yesterday charged with committing a string of burglaries in the Scarborough area.

Stefan Kaplinsky, 37, who is also known as Stefan Thewles, of no fixed abode, is said to have attempted to steal from churches during the alleged spree.

He was yesterday accused of stealing a trifle and crisps from South Cliff Bowling Club, in Filey Road, between August 20 and 22.

He is then said to have entered Jubilee Hall, Cayton, and taken cash, stamps and batteries worth £20.

Between August 30 and August 31, he allegedly entered Robert Dale and Sons Dairy in Filey and took food and an iPod shuffle worth £220 in total.

He then allegedly entered Birdsall Church, near Malton, and Ebenezer Church, Scarborough, with intent to steal between August 6 and August 19.

Kaplinsky, who was unrepresented, did not enter pleas in relation to the charges.

He will appear at court in Scarborough on Tuesday.
