POLICE have issued an appeal for information after a serious assault on a couple outside a Scarborough pub.

A 48-year-old man, who is from West Yorkshire, suffered injuries including a fractured ankle and remains in hospital.

Police said yesterday that his injuries were “serious but not life threatening”.

The man’s 44-year-old wife was also injured.

The incident occurred on Sunday outside the Albion pub in Castle Road, at around 10.20pm.

A police spokesperson said the couple had been assaulted after they intervened in a disturbance.

A car had also been damaged at the scene.

A man faces charges in connection with the attack, but police have appealed for anyone with information on the assault to come forward.
