Man in possession of banned firearms

A 60-YEAR-OLD man has appeared at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court charged with possessing three different types of prohibited weapon.

Christopher Edwin Whitehead, of St Nicholas Street, faces the charges under the Firearms Act 1968.

The first charge relates to possession of a Norinco self-loading pistol with a barrel less than 12 inches in length.

This charge is alleged to have happened in Birmingham between January 1, 2009 and January 31, 2010.

The second matter is regarding possession of an air pistol adapted for use with a self-contained gas cartridge system, during the same period.

The third charge relates to possession of a Uberti revolver with a barrel less than 12 inches in length. This matter is said to have taken place in Scarborough on March 9, 2010.

The defendant was represented in court by Shaun Greenan.

The charges were deemed so serious that the case was sent to be dealt with at York Crown Court. Whitehead will appear in York on January 21 and was released on unconditional bail.
