A man has been killed after jumping in front of a train at Scarborough train station.

The station was temporarily closed after the man leapt in front of the train in front of dozens of passengers yesterday afternoon (Friday 13).

A train was pulling in to the station at approximately 3.30pm when witnesses said the man jumped.

Medics arrived at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Onlookers described the man as being in his 60’s.

Police are treating the death as “non-suspicious” and have now launched an investigation to establish the mans identity and to inform his family.

Some onlookers, including children, were being treated for shock after the incident.

Scarborough station was re-opened a short time after the incident.

British Transport Police have said that they expect further information to be disclosed early next week.
