VANDALS in Scarborough risked causing multiple deaths or a serious road traffic collision after they hurled masonry on to a moving van.
Their actions have been described by police as “an utterly mindless act of crass stupidity.”
The incident occurred at around 5.30pm on Saturday, when the piece of masonry was thrown from the roof of a derelict building in Foreshore Road.
The missile struck a silver Peugeot Bipper van, which was travelling along Foreshore Road at the time, causing severe damage to its roof.
PC Craig Malia, of the Scarborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Had the masonry been thrown only a moment sooner it would have shattered the vehicle’s windscreen which could have had unthinkable consequences.
“I am urging anyone who knows anything about the people responsible to contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”
