Motorist banned for being over limit

A MAN has been banned from driving after he drove to Filey Police Station while over the limit.

Stephen Francis Phillips, 43, of St Helen’s Lane, Reighton, admitted the offence when he appeared at Scarborough Magsitrates’ Court yesterday, having previously denied the charge.

Kathryn Reeve, prosecuting, told the court that Phillips had driven to the station on January 26 and appeared to be in a “distressed state”.

She said: “He spoke to an officer who suspected he may have been drinking alcohol. He was asked to provide a sample of breath which proved to be positive.”

Ian Brickman, mitigating, explained that Phillips was going through an acrimonious divorce.

He added that on that day had received a number of texts and phone calls from an unknown number.

Mr Brickman said Phillips had drunk just two glasses of home-made wine and that the reading of 45mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath was relatively low.

Phillips was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £100.
