Police investigating Scarborough’s seafront murder have launched an appeal to trace potential key witnesses.

Officers are urging a couple, who walked past the murder scene just mintues after the stabbing, to come forward to assist in the investigation.

The man and woman were on Foreshore Road, opposite the Olympia amusement arcades, at about 11.35pm on Saturday night.

A 17-year-old male, who was stabbed in a leg causing a serious injury, shouted to the couple for help while he was phoning the ambulance service for emergency assistance.

His friend, Michael Vincent Graham, 19, was fatally wounded in the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Maria Taylor, of the Major Crime Unit at North Yorkshire Police, said: “It is very important that the man and woman come forward to assist the investigation without delay.

“We need to speak to them urgently as they may have crucial information or detail that could assist the murder inquiry.

“If you see or hear this appeal, or you believe you were on Foreshore Road in Scarborough late on Saturday night and recall someone shouting for help, please do the right thing and contact the police.”
