Pensioner, 71, dies after A64 collision

POLICE are appealing for information after a 71-year-old died in a collision on the A64 near Stockton-on-the-Forest.

The incident took place yesterday at about 11.40am and involved a black Mazda RX8 and a blue Vauxhall Vectra at the junction of the A64 and Barr Lane, near to Highwayman Café, between York and Malton.

At the time of the collision the Mazda was travelling from Malton towards York and the Vauxhall was waiting at the junction to turn right onto the A64 and a white Mercedes Sprinter van was on a feeder lane on the A64 waiting to turn right onto Barr Lane. This van was not involved in the collision.

As a result of the collision the 71-year-old man from Haxby, driving the Vauxhall, was pronounced dead at the scene. We are not yet in a position to name him.

The man driving the Mazda was taken by air ambulance to York District Hospital with serious injuries, where he is currently receiving treatment.

The A64 was closed for approximately four and a half hours following the collision.
