Police appeal after thieves set car on fire

Detectives in Scarborough are investigating after sneak-in thieves stole a car and burnt it out.

The suspects entered a house in St Edith’s Avenue through an unlocked back door, and stole the keys to a beige Volvo V40 estate.

The vehicle was later found on fire in a cul-de-sac in the area of Old Scalby Road at around 11.25pm that night.

The incident happened some time between 6pm and 11pm on Saturday.

Officers are appealing to anyone who has any information about the incident to get in touch.

Detective Constable Andy Hall, of Scarborough CID, said: “I am urging anyone who saw any suspicious activity either at the scene of the theft on St Edith’s Avenue or leaving the area of the burning vehicle to contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.

“It would also be helpful to the investigation if anyone who saw a beige Volvo being driven between the two areas on Saturday night, could get in contact.”

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact DC Andy Hall, of Scarborough CID, on 0845 60 60 24 7.
